MEMBERSHIP

Our Membership Is Affordable and Effective

Our Practice is restricted to serving its Members and those seeking Membership.
By restricting the numbers of patients in the Practice we can ensure that we have time available for our Members when they need it.

Membership entitles you to up to three visits to see the dentist, whether for examination or consultation; up to three visits to see the hygienist, and all clinically necessary radiographs in each year.

We offer a reduced cost Membership for children as long as one or both parents are Members, which can continue until the year in which the child reaches the age of twenty-one.

Why membership?

The advent of government-subsidised dentistry through the NHS from 1948 meant that dentists in the NHS, which were almost all, were paid on a “fee per item of service” contract – that is, piece work. No treatment done – a filling, an extraction, something that could be seen and checked - no money; and no financial incentive to prevent dental disease either.

In retrospect it is so easy to see how stupid this was. People, as patients, want to have the least dental treatment possible – they do not want to have teeth filled or removed. They want their mouths to be protected from the diseases that create the need for dental treatment.

If you were offered the choice either of paying one hundred pounds to have a filling in a tooth, or to pay one hundred pounds not to need to have a filling, which would you choose?

So here’s the thing… If you want to be treated by a dentist who is not looking for treatment to do in order to make money, but is actively and effectively trying to prevent disease in his patient’s mouths, then he needs to be paid in some other way, so that, without seeking treatment to do, he is there for you when you do need treatment – when an old filling breaks, or a tooth gets broken.

The success of Membership Practices throughout the country shows that it is what people want, and is the way forward for modern dental practices.

The fees

The financial side is dealt with by DPAS, a company that specialises in running dental memberships. They collect a Direct Debit of £22.00 per adult Member each month, while the monthly fee for child membership is £2.00.

Extra benefits

In addition to managing the finances, DPAS insure each adult Member for necessary emergency work done away from the Practice, whether in the UK or abroad. As part of that service they offer two telephone help lines; one for this country and one for when you are abroad, to help you to find a useful emergency dentist nearby.

At home, the Practice has its own emergency number to call for out-of-hours assistance.
