This Practice has run continuously since 1917.
I joined it in 1974, before it moved to Mill Lane in 1981.There it expanded rapidly until it accommodated thirteen general dentists working shifts, a full time orthodontist, and a full-time periodontal surgeon, five hygienists and a laboratory. In 1988 I left the NHS and converted the Practice to Private treatment, with a partner and three associates. In 1993 we won the National 3M Best Practice award. In 1999 I went solo and in 2005 we moved to our present premises in Minster, creating Abbey Dental Care.
Early in my career I had a dream of creating a Dental Practice that was really a club. A Practice where its clients felt at home –relaxed and confident, knowledgeable about their dental care, and keen and successful in maintaining their dental health. Abbey Dental Care is the fulfilment of that dream.
We are a Membership Practice, which follows a few simple principles:
That is why we have our own hygienist; our own laboratory; we work with micromotor driven handpieces, using a state-of-the-art operating microscope, and the best materials that we can find. We work hard to keep our skills up-to-date.
To achieve that, dentists are required to complete 75 hours of verifiable continuing professional development in each five year cycle. In my first five years, which have just ended, I have completed 145 verifiable hours. While our work is often half the price of expensive London Practices, we are not the cheapest, because we try to be the best.
I could not have achieved the quality of Practice I wanted without the support and enthusiasm of the people I work with. My wife Lynn is our Practice Manager; Leah is our hygienist and has been with me for twenty-five years. Martin is our technician, and has been with me for twenty years, as has Sharon our receptionist.
My nurses are Samantha and Laura, and together we aim for constant improvement of our skills and our service to you.
